FEDERAL DREAM ACT

Background

The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act
(DREAM Act) is a bipartisan legislation that seeks to address the plight that thousands of documented students face when trying to attend institutions of higher education in the only country they know as home, the United States of America.

Each year about 65,000 undocumented students graduate from United States high schools. They are great students and aspiring lawyers, teachers, doctors, engineers, and artists. Even when given the opportunity to attend institutions of higher education, undocumented students are trapped in a legal paradox, since they cannot actively participate in the legal workforce and put their talents and skills to use.

Congress has failed to pass this legislation since 2001, which has caused our nation to lose a vital
asset, an untapped resource of educated immigrant students with promising futures, who have
demonstrated a strong commitment and desire to become productive members of our society.
