According to the 2007 version(s) of the DREAM Act
(S. 2205 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgibin/bdquery/z?d110:s.02205 and H.R 1275 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:h.r.01275 the
students would have to meet the following requirements:
• Proof of having arrived to the United States before the age of 16;
• Proof of residence in the United States for at least five consecutive years since the date of arrival.
• Having graduated from an American High School, or obtained a GED.
• "Good moral character," defined as the absence of a significant criminal record (or any drug
charges whatsoever).
Those who meet these requirements would be eligible to apply for a temporary/ conditional residency permit
that would last six years. During these six years, the student will be required to either:
(1) Graduate from a two-year community college
(2) Complete at least two years towards a 4-year degree, or
(3) Serve two years in the U.S. military.
After the six-year period, those students who meet at least one of these three conditions would be
eligible to apply for a green card and become permanent legal residents.
